Review: Microsoft Security Essentials

Alright ! I just installed the freeware, Microsoft Security Essentials, after it has been residing in my download folder for some time. The interface is simple and neat. In my opinion, it is much nicer, compared to Malwarebytes' or Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Here's some introduction about the new Microsoft's anti-virus tool,

About Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.
Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.

Although it's free, your PC must be running genuine Windows in order to install Microsoft Security Essentials (:

I am currently using 3 adware/spyware/malware applications, namely Malwarebytes, Spybot and Microsoft Security Essentials. Pretty "kiasu", am I ? =X

Overall, I would still prefer Malwarebytes among the three. Despite how it looks, it managed to scan adwares out of my system while the other 2 didn't. Moreover, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) took a rather long duration to complete a full scan.

However, MSE and Spybot do have Real-time protection. As for Malwarebytes, you'll have to purchase a full retail version to have RT protection for your system. The shareware version doesn't include that.

For those interested, this is a screenshot of how Microsoft Security Essentials' interface looks like:

For now, I guess I will just play around with these 3 freewares until they disappoint me. Then, out they go !

Light Word ~ A New Look

At long last, a new look for my blog It took me some time to find this wonderful layout with a theme named "Light Word". In my opinion, this is much better compared to the previous default template. Sleek and cool. (:

I have been introduced to a wonderful shareware from the hardwarezone edmwers. It's called Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Key Features

Light speed quick scanning.
Ability to perform full scans for all drives.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware protection module. (requires registration)
Database updates released daily.
Quarantine to hold threats and restore them at your convenience.
Ignore list for both the scanner and Protection Module.
Settings to enhance your Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware performance.
A small list of extra utilities to help remove malware manually.
Multi-lingual support.
Works together with other anti-malware utilities.
Command line support for quick scanning.
Context menu integration to scan files on demand.

It looks good to me, so I downloaded it and gave it a try. I did a full scan, which took about 1 hour plus and resulted in 2xx adware discovered !! A real good application to keep (: It should be able to deal with adware/spyware/malware !

I have also downloaded another freeware called, Spybot - Search & Destroy. I've been using that since years ago but dropped it for Ad-aware. Guess I'm back for it again (: Pretty good so far.

Another cool software that I was recommended was Microsoft Security Essentials. Judging from the reviews, it looks really good and useful. I had downloaded it but not yet installed. Guess I'll leave it for later (:
